Day 268: A Softer World

9 Mar

For today’s post, I wanted to feature an online comic that takes me by surprise every time I visit it.

“A Softer World,” by Joey Comeau and Emily Horne, takes a look at the secret minds of people in daily situations with a hipster touch. With strange photographs and cut-out word documents of phrases, it’s a piece of art every week.

I really like it because it doesn’t shy away from the dark and intense topics, but it also reignites the silly moments in life. It’s creative, it’s strangely realistic, and it’s beautiful!

Below are a couple examples from the past few weeks. But you can check out more in the archives section if you’d like. Just click the pictures to see more, and hopefully you’ll see “a softer world” we live in.

Day 149: Take Everything Music Video

10 Nov

(Margasaur edit: this blog post was from the lovely Ridemus who filled in for me a few weeks ago. Due to my computer situation, I could never approve it so here you go!!)

Whats up guys? Ridemus here again. If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

“Go on and take everything from me and more.”

Hey guys, its Ridemus here again. Whats up? I’m filling in for Marga today because her computer ran into some issues. If anyone wants to donate the money to buy her a new one that would be great. Or you could just give the money to me. Either way.

Anyway, I was browsing the iTunes Free Section and I stumbled across one of the coolest music videos I have ever seen. Its called ‘Take Everything’ by Greg Laswell. The song is great, but the video has a very clever idea.

The entire video was played backwards. Greg Laswell had to mouth the entire song backwards so when the video was played back, it would seem like he was singing it forward. There were a lot of interesting scenes as well such as someone dropping a box filled with rubber bouncing balls, feathers flying around, and someone cutting guitar strings and then setting the guitar on fire. It was very interesting to see all of those stunts backwards.

Check it out guys.

Day 121: Minesweeper – The Movie!

19 Sep

Hey guys, if this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Hows it going guys? Its Ridemus again. (Nope, you cant get rid of me just yet) I’m filling in for Margasaur today.

“Why are you really here solider?” “Cause I want to keep this ledge safe!” “Why are you really here?” “Cause I’m bored!”

Anyone play Minesweeper? That game where you click a square and it will give you a number and the number represents how many squares are adjacent to it?  (If you didn’t know how to play before, you know now.) Its the game that most people know as the one where you click random squares until you explode.

My friend showed me this youtube video a bit ago and I still can’t stop laughing. It depicts a real life version of Minesweeper and depicts several soldiers on a mine field learning how to defuse mines. It adds the same rules of minesweeper and the same basic gamplay. Some of the humor includes someone guessing where a mine is while saying “Don’t worry, its never the first one.” (Which, if anyone plays that game knows, that every so often it is) before exploding. Its hilarious. Check it out guys.

(Final thought, if you haven’t seen the funny videos made by collegehumor,

Day 115: Ole Black And Blue Eyes by The Fratellis

12 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Does anyone remember The Fratellis? They had one hit a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlMfV7A3V00&feature=related

Yeah, while they may be considered a one hit wonder band, they are actually a really talented band that deserves some recognition.

For example, their song “Ole Black And Blue Eyes” is catchy and fun to sing along to! Plus, the video is so strange that it makes me smile when watching.

S0 check out “Ole Black And Blue Eyes” by The Fratellis! (and check out the band! They’re really good!)

Super Effective!

12 Sep

Hey guys, Ridemus again. If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

If you’re a pokemon fan and you know it clap your hands. If you just clapped your hands and everyone is now looking at you, look down ashamed.

Anyway, I stumbled across a hilarious webcomic known as Super Effective. It features jokes and humor that only people who have played the games would understand and find humorous. It covers a fictional character “Red” who starts his quest to be the ultimate pokemon master, while keeping most of the games features. Some of the comedy includes; Professor Oak asking the obvious question of “Are you a boy or a girl” or Professor Oak not knowing his own grandsons name and gives you the option to pick.

Seriously, check it out guys. Its pretty short now but hopefully it’ll be updated soon with some more support.

P.S. The rest of ‘Vgcats’ comic strips are pretty funny as well. Check them out.

Argyle Sweater!

8 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Hey readers, whats up? No, this isn’t your loyal optimism seeker Margasaur, but rather a new author named Ridemus. I’ll be adding my own doses of optimism to the blog along with Margasaur’s own posts.

Back in my senior year of high school, I would always read the most important section of the paper, the comics. My favorite being the Argyle Sweater. Created by Scott Hilburn, it’s a one paneled comic strip similar to ‘The Farside.’ (I even wrote one and sent it to the Scott. He liked the idea and drew a comic out of it.)

Random, witty, funny. What more could you ask for?

Check it out guys.

Day 87: The Mighty Boosh!

15 Aug

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Today I’m short on time, so I’ll make this quick!

I just got addicted to a great show called “The Mighty Boosh” (starring Julian Barratt and Noel Fielding). It is from England, so the humor is a little odd, but the one-liners and the rest of the randomness that is the show is just fantastic.

I am done with season one, but I’m waiting to get my season 2 and season 3 dvds in the mail! Check out clips from the show right below here!! (and check out the show itself! Season 1 and 3 are available on iTunes)

Here’s one of their songs from an episode (“Tundra”, aka my favorite episode so far)
