Day 243: [BELATED… yet again] Moves by The New Pornographers

15 Feb

Man am I failing at updating or what?!

Anyways, I’ve got a few great posts coming up in the next few minutes so check em out!

I wanted to feature this video when it came out last week, but I unfortunately forgot… so here goes nothing!

“Moves” by The New Pornographers is their newest single off of their 2010 album Together (which is awesome, by the way… go check it out if you can).

The video for “Moves” is brilliant and clever and I wish it were real life. Mainly because all these actors and musicians in the same place at the same time would be glorious.

The video features celebs such as Donald Glover (Community), John Oliver (Daily Show), John Hodgeman (Mac Vs PC commercials), Ted Leo (of Ted Leo & The Pharmacists), Horatio Sanz (SNL), Wyatt Cenac (The Daily Show), Julie Klausner (Best Week Ever), Kevin Corrigan (Fringe and The Departed), Jon Wurster (Squidbillies), Paul Rudd (Role Models)  and Bill Hader (SNL). All these are featured in a fake movie called “Moves: The Rise and Rise of the New Pornographers”… a dramatic tale of how the worlds most chillest indie band became big and bigger. It’s awesome.

Check out “Moves” by the New Pornographers, and see what I mean for yourself!

Day 241: [BELATED] I AM NOT AN ARTIST

11 Feb

Described as only “An animated gif paranoia about nonstop design workers”, I AM NOT AN ARTIST is kind of a lot to take in. But if you get a chance, check it out! All the gifs are really neat, and I love checking them out myself!

Day 234: Birds by The Submarines

3 Feb

Hey everyone!

So the beginning of the year is always awesome because there’s new music a plenty. So far I’ve featured Ducktails, Fleet Foxes, Daley, Peter Bjorn & John (x2), and the Decemberists!

Well more good news!

An indie band that most people would probably recognize from their iPod ads just dropped a new single today off their new CD. The Submarines are a relationship-band (much like Matt & Kim or Mates of State) in which John Dragonetti and Blake Hazard have been on and off dating in their career of making music. This makes their music intriguing: all of their relationship songs are somewhat about each other… so it’s easier to grasp what the band sounds like.

I’ve been a fan of the band since I heard their song “Xavia” in the indie romantic comedy Nick And Norah’s Infinite Playlist (2008). It’s a little electronic and wee bit psychadelic, but completely infectious. Ever since then, I’ve been rocking their hits here and there on my way to class or waiting for the bus.

Their new song “Birds” is surprisingly more upbeat than their other music that I’ve heard… so I was a lot happier listening to it! It features an on-key vocal track provided by Hazard and some cute chillin’ beats in the background, definitely something I can get used to (here’s to hoping their newest CD sounds like this all the way through)!

Anyway, enough rambling from me… enjoy “Birds” by The Submarines… and click here to download a free copy of this mp3 (courtesy of Spin Magazine)!

Day 222: The Bones Of An Idol by The New Pornographers

22 Jan

Hey guys!

So yesterday was a great day. I felt really confident about my test, got finished with my project, and just felt good.

To be honest with you guys, my life has been a little odd so days like these are super fantastic.

But I feel like I couldn’t have done it without this song: “The Bones Of An Idol” by The New Pornographers.

I’m a huge fan of this band, and while their name rings of something raunchy, the band is incredibly great! I’m also a little embarrassed to admit that I hadn’t listened to their CD Twin Cinema all the way through until yesterday… even though I’ve had it for like 4 years. It’s always a struggle – should I listen to The Electric Version or Twin Cinema? (I always pick the one I know best).

But anyways, the song popped onto my iPod yesterday, and I haven’t been able to get it out of my head. It’s really great and mystical in a strange way…

So enjoy “The Bones Of An Idol” by The New Pornographers

Day 208: [BELATED] Flickriver.com

9 Jan

Hey guys!
Sorry for (yet again) another belated post! This weekend has been stocked with crazy moments and lots of just hanging out with friends I haven’t seen in a while.

Anyway, on to the post!

My teacher said that he was addicted to a website called “flickriver.com”. Intrigued, I checked it out myself, and I am sort of totally addicted as well. If you’ve ever been to the site Flickr (which is where I normally post my pictures), you know that it’s a website where you can upload and manage photos. Flickriver takes random pictures from Flickr and places them on an endless loop for people to look at.

It generates a new batch of pictures each day, and it is pretty incredible (plus, placed upon a black background, it’s an easy website to look at).

Here are some pictures from today… check them out at flickriver.com by clicking on the pictures. (also, if you really like the pics, you can click on them on flickriver.com and find the photographer and their other work!)

Enjoy!

Enjoy these (and TONS more) at flickriver.com!

Day 188: Je Ne Veux Pas Travailler by Pink Martini

19 Dec

Hello everyone!

I wanted to feature a song today that is in French. Yes, good ol’ français!

Sure, most of you will probably not feel the way I do, but I get this song stuck in my head on a regular daily basis. It’s sweet and lovely (and also featured in that game “Flight” I featured a couple days ago!)

Day 181: Scenes From The Suburbs exceprt: The Suburbs

12 Dec

Hey guys!

Now I know I’ve posted the song “The Suburbs” by Arcade Fire before (a while back in the summertime), but this deserves to be recognized.

Very famous (and influential) director Spike Jonze took the Arcade Fire song “The Suburbs” and created a short film dedicated to it. Now, I haven’t actually seen the short film Scenes From The Suburbs, but as a promotional tool, they released a clip as the music video for the song!

I saw it a few weeks back, and I have to say, it’s quite terrifying. At first I was very nostalgic, but it really freaked me out at the end… but I’m really hoping that you guys like it. I know it may not be the most optimistic video ever, it’s still an incredible piece of art that needs to be viewed.

So enjoy the official music video (and clip from Scenes From The Suburbs) “The Suburbs” (by Arcade Fire and directed by Spike Jonze)
