Day 89: Jazz Music

17 Aug

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

After filling up on enough “Mighty Boosh” for a decade, I have gone into my own jazz trance.

I love jazz music myself, and I’ve picked out a select few that catch me in a good mood. Hopefully you will have a jazz trance just like me!

So, here are 10 of my favorite jazz songs:

1. Take Five by The Dave Brubeck Quartet

2. Moonlight Serenade by Glenn Miller

3. The Sheik Of Araby by Django Reinhardt

4. Body And Soul by Billie Holiday

5. Frenesi by Artie Shaw

6. Take The “A” Train by Duke Ellington

7. If I Didn’t Care by The Ink Spots

8. Guilty by  Al Bowlly

9. Singin’ The Blues by Frankie Trumbauer And His Orchestra

10. In The Mood by Glenn Miller

If you’re a fan of 30s and 40s jazz, check out the Woody Allen film Radio Days (1987). Not only is it one of my favorite films in general, it is also jam-packed with great music!

The plot is about a man remembering his childhood in a Jewish Household in the 40s… it focuses on how the radio greatly impacted his childhood. It is wonderful, and seeing Seth Green as a kid (he’s the tiny red head) is just adorable!!

Here is a clip featuring my favorite song in the whole movie (“September Song”)

Check this movie out… you won’t regret it!

Also, if you haven’t seen Inception yet, go see it! It’s amazing and neat and a great summer film. For the ladies: look out for the wonderfully suave Joseph Gordon-Levitt… not to mention English Tom Hardy and the ever-so-handsome Leonardo DiCaprio. Just take my word for it and go see it!

Day 43: Old Spice Commercials

2 Jul

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Today has been a lazy day for me. As much as I’ve been trying to get myself motivated to do something, my eyes won’t budge from the tv. I guess I’m sorry? Maybe it’s the 8 months of no tv that’s making me obsessed.

Anyways, as I watch countless commercials, sifting through the crazy world of advertising, one series of commercials stand out over the rest. Old Spice.

Old Spice brand cologne, deodorant, and body wash for men has the silliest ad campaign. Every commercial features utter craziness that hooks even the females.

Being a journalism major, I love watching ads to see what draws people in… and Old Spice still makes it as my number one favorite ad campaign. They are so bizarre and silly, that they just make me happy.

So below are my favorite examples of how amazing Old Spice ads are.

Enjoy!

and, of course, the most amazing Bruce Campbell!

Which is your favorite?

P.S. here’s a bonus

Day 33: Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends

22 Jun

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page (located underneath the giant title) for more info on my project.

So tonight, I saw Toy Story 3 with my good friend Kaitlin. Let me just say, I have not cried so hard in a movie theater in my entire life. If you are planning on seeing it, make sure you bring lots and lots and lots and LOTS of kleenex. It’s a great movie, but you will cry.

Today continues Cartoon Network week!

Ironically, after I picked today’s topic, I realized that this kind of shadows Toy Story in a way.

My post for today is a really terrific show called “Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends.” The plot of the show is as follows: a little kid lives in an apartment with his older brother and his mother. Because he is lonely and sad, he creates an imaginary friend named Bloo (which is a blue blob) that wreaks havoc. The little boy (named Mac) is told he needs to get rid of his imaginary friend, and he finds a home for him at an old mansion called Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, where kids can abandon their imaginary friends (like an orphanage). This show, although a little sad and awkward, was silly, fun, and really creative.

This show is near and dear to me, mainly because I used to have an imaginary friend myself. The idea that my imaginary friend would be able to be adopted and loved by another kid makes me feel happy and a little better about growing up.

Anyways, the show was cancelled (I guess it didn’t appeal to everyone), but it lives on in cartoon network history!

Click on the picture to watch an episode of the show!

P.S. Check out the games. because they are adorable,

P.P.S. I watched an episode of Adventure Time this morning, and I take back what I said: it’s hilarious!!

Day 18: Slip Away by Kathryn Calder

7 Jun

Hello there! If this is your first time on the website, be sure to check out the about page in the top right hand corner.

So today is my last day in Eugene for three months. As I pack my stuff and say goodbye to friends new and old, I have been trying to keep an uplifting spirit. But it has been hard.

On the bright side, I did find out that I got a promising job on campus next term, so that shall be both a challenge and an advantage for the year to come.

Anyways, today I bring you a new song!! It’s called “Slip Away” by Kathryn Calder (who is the keyboardist in one of my favorite bands, the New Pornographers). This is the first song from her solo project, and as far as I know it was released today!!

So enjoy!!

Goodbye, Eugene! And everyone living here! I’ll be back in three months!
