Day 217: Portlandia

17 Jan

Hello again everyone!

So on Friday (on channel IFC) at 10:30pm, a new show will be shown that sort of BLOWS MY MIND.

It’s called Portlandia, and it’s a sketch show based on the hipster (and weird) culture of Portland, OR.

The show was co-created by SNL fave Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney band member Carrie Brownstein, and it looks like one of the funniest shows ever!!

Here are two clips from the show to get you started, but be sure to check it out starting this Friday on IFC:

The first clip sets up the show

The second clip made me sad… mainly because I TOTALLY get it. (I love love love Paste Mag, The Seattle Stranger, Spin, the Portland Mercury… the ending credits of that movie… and I’m almost a hundred percent sure I’ve had a battle like this before)

I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS SHOOOOOOOW!!!

Day 168: Doncamatic (All Played Out) by Gorillaz feat. Daley

29 Nov

Hello everyone!

Man oh man this week is already off to a crazy start! For us college students, it’s dead week… aka the week where everything falls apart.

Yes, I’m crazy stressed, but I always like to remember that this blog is there for a reason! In the midst of all this chaos, there is still some cool stuff out there.

Like, for example, Gorillaz’s new single “Doncamatic (All Played Out)” feat. Daley. At first, I reeeeeeallly didn’t like this song… it’s weird, and not the Gorillaz-norm (and, if you know me, I’m a huge fan of Gorillaz).

But, after I saw the music video, I couldn’t shake the rhythm out of my mind! It’s fun to sing along to, and fun to just groove out to!

Plus, the video makes me smile. As a big fan of the ocean and an ex-marine-biologist-wannabe, the underwater theme just made me smile!

So I hope you enjoy “Doncamatic (All Played Out)” by Gorillaz feat. Daley. And sorry if this song gets stuck in your head for days. I can’t get it out of my head!

Day 167: Seattle during the Thanksgiving Weekend

28 Nov

Hello everyone!

So my roommate Jamie and I went to the Seattle area for Thanksgiving, and boy did we have a lot of fun! We spent Black Friday in Downtown Seattle, taking in the sites and smells of the big city. On Saturday, we went to Pike Place Market and Archie Mcphees in Ballard, afterwards taking a trip to Bellevue Square to see a spontaneous parade! Throughout the week, we wandered around Redmond, taking in the beautiful site of the snow covered land. It was a great trip!

For today’s post, I have decided to feature some of the best pictures we took, from both Jamie and me.

Enjoy!

The hills about Eugene, so pretty in the snow!

Day 148: The Underdog by Spoon

16 Oct

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Hey guys. So, due to a computer malfunction (aka, me dropping cold tea on my laptop’s keyboard), my computer is a little different. Last night, I updated from my phone… and today I have a portable keyboard ready to type. But I apologize if my blog is updated at weird hours because I can’t technically type anything without this portable keyboard.

But it got me thinking… My computer is failing, and now the portable keyboard (also known as “The Underdog”) stepped in to take the shot at the game. So far so good!

Okay, yeah I’m not that lame to think of that… but I did want to feature one of my favorite, happy-sounding songs ever: “The Underdog” by Spoon!

I got a chance to see the band back in May, and they were fantastic. So great to hear, so beautiful to look at (I’m talking to you, Brit Daniels!)

Anyway, enjoy “The Underdog” by Spoon!

Day 135: Return of The Quack!

3 Oct

Hey guys, if this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

So, school has officially started, which means Ducks football is in its prime!

This calls for a new video for the new school year!

Enjoy, “Return Of The Quack!” by Supwitchugirl!

Day 130: The Limit To Your Love by Feist

28 Sep

Hey guys, if this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

The fall is here (even though the weather outside is deceptively hot). I will update the blog with more pictures once the leaves turn, but for right now, fall is creeping into my thoughts.

What does it mean? It means that my fall music playlist is taken down from the closet, brushed off a bit, and put onto my iPod. And what’s the best music for fall? Folk.

Well, for me folk is good for all times of the year, but it has a strange effect on me in the autumn. I start to feel the cold breeze (hypothetically, of course, since it was like 80 degrees here today), I see the leaves change color and fall to the ground, I smell the pumpkin spice, and I watch the campus come to life. It’s really beautiful.

So when I’m feeling in the fall-mood, I like to start off with some Feist. Her voice is soothing, and, while it’s not exactly folk music, it reminds me of the season.

Today, I picked “The Limit To Your Love” by Feist, not because of the topic, but because it reminds me of the autumn feeling. It’s dark and light, sweet and smooth, and it always makes me want to walk slower and take it all in.

There is no limit to my love for this song (I know, I had to). So hopefully you’ll enjoy “The Limit To Your Love” by Feist as much as I do.

P.S. if you’ve never heard her CD The Reminder, check it out. It’s very very good!
