Day 292: Windowsill by Arcade Fire

28 Apr

I wanted to feature this song today because it literally encompassed my feelings in song-form. Sort of.

You see, today was one of those strange bipolar weather days, where the sun would peek out for a good ten minutes before hail rained down. Rain to sun to hail to rain to clouds to sun to rain. All day long.

And as I was walking through campus, doing whatever I normally do on Thursdays, I had the undeniable urge to find a CD that could compliment the strange weather pattern… making it more realistic, I guess.

I try to turn to bands that I’ve trusted with this task before, so it only took me a few seconds to realize that Arcade Fire’s whole Neon Bible album is incredibly effective for this type of day. But what really convinced me was the presence of the song “Windowsill.”

The song is incredibly somber, but it’s grandiose and beautiful while still remaining terribly melancholy. With Win Butler’s graceful voice moving through the difficult lyrics, and the background instruments (specifically that string part towards the middle), I can’t help but feel like this song is an escape for not only me but for the band itself (see the lyrics “I don’t wanna live in my father’s house no more…”). It expands and increases it’s intensity while still remaining full of plea.

With the weather changes that just mess with the population of our little city, “Windowsill” is not only an escape, but it falls with the rain, just in a different way. I feel like I can imagine looking through the window of a hectic world onto like a green pasture, so free from all this craziness. I guess I’m just strange like that.

But regardless, it perfectly encapsulated a moment in time today, and I couldn’t help but feel a little empowered by this song. The world just sort of melted away around me, and all that was left was me and the rain/hail/clouds/sun. It was a beautiful feeling.

I hope you can enjoy this song the same way. Here’s “Windowsill” by Arcade Fire

Day 167: Seattle during the Thanksgiving Weekend

28 Nov

Hello everyone!

So my roommate Jamie and I went to the Seattle area for Thanksgiving, and boy did we have a lot of fun! We spent Black Friday in Downtown Seattle, taking in the sites and smells of the big city. On Saturday, we went to Pike Place Market and Archie Mcphees in Ballard, afterwards taking a trip to Bellevue Square to see a spontaneous parade! Throughout the week, we wandered around Redmond, taking in the beautiful site of the snow covered land. It was a great trip!

For today’s post, I have decided to feature some of the best pictures we took, from both Jamie and me.

Day 151: Omnom Forest

12 Nov

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

I’ve got some good stuff planned for this coming week! First, I have an interview with a band (who is awesome by the way), and next week is going to be another themed week (that has to do with adorable guys with banjos and clouds).

But for today, I have a simple game called “Omnom Forest”.

Loosely based on the movie My Neighbor Totoro, the point of the game is to have the little totoro-like things eat fruit and avoid acorns. Sound simple enough? Just wait… it gets surprisingly difficult!

I love this game. It’s so sweet and the noise they make is so adorkable. Plus, wait until you see what you have to do to calm them down if you make them mad!!

So enjoy “Omnom Forest”!

Day 118: Snoqualmie Falls

15 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

I’m leaving to go back to Eugene on Friday, so I spent the day with two of my best friends…

The first half of the day was devoted to my friend Kaitlin, who is leaving for college tomorrow. We had lunch, chilled for a while, and decided to take a sporadic trip to Snoqualmie Falls.

Now, Snoqualmie Falls is located in the hills of Snoqualmie (duh!). It’s about 3 or 4 minutes outside of one of my favorite cities ever: Fall City. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any pictures of the sweet little city, but it is one of those small towns where everyone knows each other. And it is my dream city!!

Anyway, Snoqualmie Falls is gorgeous. The little park is teeny weeny but it’s got a gorgeous view of this natural oddity. There is a bit of construction going on that makes it sad and uncomfortable, but it isn’t enough to ruin the gorgeous view.

What made it even more beautiful was the rain. There’s something gorgeous about seeing the falls in the rain surrounded by the green trees.

Needless to say it was wonderful. While our time there was short, it was still a great day.

I will miss Kaitlin, but I’m glad we’re returning to school!

The second half of my day was dedicated to spending time with Tyler. I will miss him too, but we will chill sooner or later!

But anyway, if you’re in Washington and want to see wonderful scenery, come check out Snoqualmie Falls!!

Day 103: HOT TAMALES!!

31 Aug

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

First off, I’m back from California! And I shall have some pictures for ya tomorrow (as my blog post). Sorry I didn’t update so well, I was lacking internet (except for my phone) and it is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to update this blog from my iPhone. Seriously!

Anyway, I have a couple of notes for you:

1.) PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES ARE BACK AT STARBUCKS!! If you want the most amazing coffee yummy treat from Starbucks, GET IT.

2.) I discovered a new love for Green Tea with Splenda! So so so good!

3.) I think the weather loves me and my mom. When we arrived in California, we had checked the weather reports and they boasted 110 degrees for the whole week. The first day was hot… the next 5 days were between the 60s and 80s! Plus there was rain! (nothing like the rain that greeted me when I stepped off the plane at Sea-Tac)

4.) Sea-Tac is the NICEST AIRPORT EVER. So easy to navigate, super nice staff, clean rooms everywhere, and just overall a breeze. I adore this airport!

5.) My actual blog post for this evening is dedicated to my two future roomies. We discovered this video last year when we were procrastinating on our homework. Ever since then it’s become a huge inside joke (resulting in a HILARIOUSLY AWESOME set of salt and pepper shakers for our apartment) and an automatic cheerer-upper.

So, in honor of the lovely Jamie and Becca, I bring you HOT TAMALES!!!

Day 13: Vaporize by The Broken Bells

2 Jun

Hello there! If this is your first time on the website, be sure to check out the top right hand corner (the about page) to see exactly what my project is all about.

Hello all. Today is once again a dreary day, however I did find my daily does of awesome, in the form of a collaboration between two of my all time favorite musicians!

Broken Bells is a side project of The Shins’ frontman James Mercer and notoriously awesome producer Danger Mouse. The music is chill, very psychadelic in some senses, and totally boss!

Because today has not been the best, I’ve been listening to their debut, self-titled album pretty consistently. So today I bring you “Vaporize” by Broken Bells!

Day 11: Go Go Plant 2

31 May

Hello there! If this is your first time on the website, be sure to check out the about page in the top right hand corner!

As the rain comes down on this Memorial Day, I figured I would provide one of my FAVORITE ways to pass the time: playing Go Go Plant 2!

Not only is the music just freaking sweet, but the concept of it is so bizarre and awesome that it always brings a smile to my face.

This is dedicated to my faithful follower, Kaitlin. Make sure you get some fresh air this time and try not to play it for hours and hours XD
