Day 150: My Miserable Life Of Solitude With Cats #1

11 Nov

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

A good friend of mine approached me about doing a comic for the site, and when I heard about the premise I was very excited!

He wrote up a little bit about the strip below, and I am honored to debut the first strip!

From the author:

“Hello everyone, my name is Warner Brown, and I am the proud owner of 2 very strange cats, this strip is dedicated to the weird, bizarre and sometimes psychotic things they do on a daily basis, the art will get better, the strips more entertaining, but heres a taste of My Miserable Life of Solitude with Cats. Enjoy!”

Day 145: [BELATED… OF COURSE!] Kong by Bonobo

14 Oct

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Of course I forget. Of course. Guys and gals who read my blog, I apologize for my lack of word of keeping up my blog. I am super failing. But I guess I do have time to make up for it!

This post is dedicated to a band Tyler introduced me to right before I left for college. Bonobo is probably not everyone’s choice listening, mainly because it’s so chill and electronic, and not more word-clad. But it is really good and nice to listen to when you need something to relax to.

If I was still in Washington on the 20th of November, I would definitely be accompanying my best friend to the concert! But alas, I am not.

Anyway, I present you with Bonobo’s “Kong”. Enjoy!

Day 144: Really Do Like You by Cam Hodges

12 Oct

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

So this is really neat… I actually sort of knew this guy in high school! His name is Cam Hodges and he is an amazing musician.

Until more recently, his fame was kept within the bounds of the Seattle area. His music was fantastic, but we were very few that got to hear it. A month or so ago he actually made it onto “America’s Got Talent” and (even though he didn’t win), he was a crowd pleaser! Now, his videos are incredibly popular, and he is becoming a national star!

I’m really happy to post this song because not only is it great, but this guy is super cool too. Even in high school, he treated everyone with respect, and he is still one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! Keep on rockin’ Cam!

So enjoy “Really Do Like You” by Cam Hodges.

Day 141: Cookin’ Kitty Moment

9 Oct

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

The strangest stuff pops up on public access.

When I was bored one night this summer, I turned on public access and witnessed “Cookin’ Kitty” for the first time.

Cookin’ Kitty is a guy who, dressed as a cat, does aerobics and talks about issues. The one I was watching involved him crawling through some grass at a park in the Seattle area. He was discussing his love for alcohol and his issues with the political systems. It was a strange experience watching it, but I was drawn in!

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find the episode I watched that night, I did find him talking about a very important issue: why he drinks tea instead of coffee in Seattle.

So, enjoy Cookin’ Kitty!

Day 138: [BELATED] Leeni!

7 Oct

Hey guys, if this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Guys, I failed you already… After Friday’s “I’m gonna update it everyday no matter what the cause!” speech, I already forgot to update you.

Anyways, today I will (once again) do two blogposts.

One quick thing, before I get into my blogpost, if you went to my other blog looking for a blog post on “The Exploding Girl,” it is non-existent still. I will get to that as soon as I physically can!

Anyways, today I want to talk a bit about Leeni! If you remember correctly, I mentioned her in my blog post about Fighter X, where I discussed the awesome art of 8-bit techno!

One of the cool things about Leeni’s music is the vocal track. She remixes her own music using various programs, and she compliments it with her sweet sing-songy voice. It’s quite nice!

Leeni is actually pretty well known in the 8-bit community, making her mark with CDs, concerts, and even contests! She’s one of the best Seattle musicians you probably never heard of, but now you will!

Enjoy “Animatronic Boy” and “Underworld” by Leeni! (and check her out on myspace!)

One of these days I need to get 8-bit heart! Haha! Remember, check out 8bc.org if you want to listen to more 8-bit!

Day 133: The Well And The Lighthouse by Arcade Fire

1 Oct

Hey guys, if this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Okay, I know I always put Arcade Fire on here, but the band has been on my mind a lot in the past month. I’ve been focusing on their newest CD, and at first I really didn’t like it. After about a month of non-stop listening, I’ve come to the conclusion that it is one of my favorite CDs of the whole year (if not my favorite).

Tonight, however, I revisited their last CD Neon Bible and realized how much I love that CD. It’s incredibly built and beautiful. Everything about it is epic and amazing!

One of my favorite songs on the CD is called “The Well And The Lighthouse”… the male and female vocals work so well together, and the song itself is so much fun to sing along to!

So enjoy “The Well And The Lighthouse” by Arcade Fire!

Day 120: Fighter X!

17 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

So, back for a bit more!

With the recent popularity of “Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World” (or, more specifically, it’s soundtrack), 8-bit music is making a comeback!

Now, what is 8-bit exactly? Well, first let me give you a taste

8-bit is basically music made from programs based off of video game systems (mostly from Nintendo’s Gameboy!). The beats are remixed and programed to get a totally sound that is just fantastic!

Now this stuff is everywhere! There’s bands all over the country, and even some in other countries like Japan. But in my hometown of Seattle, 8-bit is running rampant in the underground music scene.

I have actually gotten to know a few of the artists through other things (Leeni, who is pretty freaking sweet in person and on audio, and her side-project BiForce are two that I adore), but one in specific always sticks out on my playlist: Fighter X.

His real name is Nickolas Walthew (and for a while Jack Waterman of “Circles” fame was appearing in the band too), and he is one of the most prominent 8-bit bands out there right now. I’ve actually had a chance to see him perform live (which was AWESOME) and even briefly moshed with him for like 5 minutes (Nick, if your reading this, I don’t expect you to remember this, haha! This was like 2 years ago). I’ve been a fan since then and even own a couple CDs.

What makes his music so great is the complexity of the tunes! Anyone can take an old gameboy song and remix it (the most popular remixed track of game-fame is Legend of Zelda…. I find more that song more than anything!). But Fighter X actually takes this whole LSDJ (which is a program used to remix these songs) thing and turns it into something completely original and even intense!!

Come check his work out at his Myspace, or at 8bc!
