Day 263: Open Your Arms by Editors

4 Mar

Hey everyone!

You know when you have one of those days where you wake up and everything goes wrong? Yeah, that’s today for me.

But instead of dwelling on it too much, I’ve decided to take extra precautions today to make sure I try not to slip into some sort of sad mindset. Sure, I am a wee bit upset that today has gone by in a not-so-great manner, but I can think of at least one thing that makes my day a little easier.

“Open Your Arms” by Editors is kind of an old-school song (it came out on their debut album The Back Room inĀ 2005), but it’s so beautiful and mind-boggling that I can’ ever turn my attention away from it.

I first discovered my love for this song back when I was in 9th grade… it set the perfect scene for me. I was on a field trip with the band (yeah, I’m that much of a nerd), and we were headed to Wenatchee, WA for some sort of festival… but in order to get there from where I live, we had to go through the Snoqualmie Pass. Thankfully it was spring, so the lack of snow was a sight for sore eyes, but it was still a gorgeous view. Then “Open Your Arms” came on, and I couldn’t help but cry.

Something about this song just makes the scenery so much more special. It’s as if the song was written by the mountains, forests, lakes, snow piles… the road, the signs, the clouds. Call me cheesy if you like, but it’s a beautiful feeling.

So I hope you enjoy “Open Your Arms” by Editors. If I may make a suggestion: just close your eyes, and listen.

Day 219: [BELATED] Strange Vine by Delta Spirit

20 Jan

Hello everyone!

Sorry for the late post… This week has been both a stressful one and a strange one…

Regardless, I wanted to post this song yesterday because it makes me smile.

In these high times of stress for me, I’ve been relying on music that puts a smile on my face r brings me through my day a little easier.

Delta Spirit is one of those bands that does that for me!

I saw these guys open for the Shins about 2 years ago, and while my beloved shins were good Delta Spirit blew them out of the water! The band was gritty, edgy, but knew how to make a crowd go from uninterested to buying an album. I myself bought their debut album Ode To Sunshine at the concert, and even got Matt Vasquez (the lead singer) and Jon Jameson (the bassist) to sign it. Honestly, the greatest part for me was the insane bear hug that Vasquez gave me (for no reason) when I said that I had just become a fan… he is insanely good looking and it was awesome.

The song I picked off the album, “Strange Vine”, is not the most well-known song they’ve done, but it defines my life… a little rough around the edges but upbeat. I love to throw it on when I’m feeling down in the dumps because it always brings me right back out.

If you really like this song, I highly recommend their other music. It’s all the same, bluegrass, folky, alt-rock music and it’s all really awesome!

So enjoy “Strange Vine” by Delta Spirit

Day 217: Portlandia

17 Jan

Hello again everyone!

So on Friday (on channel IFC) at 10:30pm, a new show will be shown that sort of BLOWS MY MIND.

It’s called Portlandia, and it’s a sketch show based on the hipster (and weird) culture of Portland, OR.

The show was co-created by SNL fave Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney band member Carrie Brownstein, and it looks like one of the funniest shows ever!!

Here are two clips from the show to get you started, but be sure to check it out starting this Friday on IFC:

The first clip sets up the show

The second clip made me sad… mainly because I TOTALLY get it. (I love love love Paste Mag, The Seattle Stranger, Spin, the Portland Mercury… the ending credits of that movie… and I’m almost a hundred percent sure I’ve had a battle like this before)

I CAN’T WAIT FOR THIS SHOOOOOOOW!!!

Day 115: Ole Black And Blue Eyes by The Fratellis

12 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Does anyone remember The Fratellis? They had one hit a few years back: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlMfV7A3V00&feature=related

Yeah, while they may be considered a one hit wonder band, they are actually a really talented band that deserves some recognition.

For example, their song “Ole Black And Blue Eyes” is catchy and fun to sing along to! Plus, the video is so strange that it makes me smile when watching.

S0 check out “Ole Black And Blue Eyes” by The Fratellis! (and check out the band! They’re really good!)

Day 8: Australia by The Shins

28 May

Hello there! If this is your first time on the website, be sure to check out the about page in the top right hand corner!

Today, I get to share quite possibly my favorite music video of all time. Why? Well, I think it’s adorkable. And it’s The Shins….

This video is so sweet and innocent, and I love watching it when it’s dreary outside or I’m unhappy. Instant smile. So enjoy, Australia by The Shins.
