Day 167: Seattle during the Thanksgiving Weekend

28 Nov

Hello everyone!

So my roommate Jamie and I went to the Seattle area for Thanksgiving, and boy did we have a lot of fun! We spent Black Friday in Downtown Seattle, taking in the sites and smells of the big city. On Saturday, we went to Pike Place Market and Archie Mcphees in Ballard, afterwards taking a trip to Bellevue Square to see a spontaneous parade! Throughout the week, we wandered around Redmond, taking in the beautiful site of the snow covered land. It was a great trip!

For today’s post, I have decided to feature some of the best pictures we took, from both Jamie and me.

Enjoy!

Day 144: Really Do Like You by Cam Hodges

12 Oct

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

So this is really neat… I actually sort of knew this guy in high school! His name is Cam Hodges and he is an amazing musician.

Until more recently, his fame was kept within the bounds of the Seattle area. His music was fantastic, but we were very few that got to hear it. A month or so ago he actually made it onto “America’s Got Talent” and (even though he didn’t win), he was a crowd pleaser! Now, his videos are incredibly popular, and he is becoming a national star!

I’m really happy to post this song because not only is it great, but this guy is super cool too. Even in high school, he treated everyone with respect, and he is still one of the nicest people I’ve ever met! Keep on rockin’ Cam!

So enjoy “Really Do Like You” by Cam Hodges.

Day 118: Snoqualmie Falls

15 Sep

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

I’m leaving to go back to Eugene on Friday, so I spent the day with two of my best friends…

The first half of the day was devoted to my friend Kaitlin, who is leaving for college tomorrow. We had lunch, chilled for a while, and decided to take a sporadic trip to Snoqualmie Falls.

Now, Snoqualmie Falls is located in the hills of Snoqualmie (duh!). It’s about 3 or 4 minutes outside of one of my favorite cities ever: Fall City. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get any pictures of the sweet little city, but it is one of those small towns where everyone knows each other. And it is my dream city!!

Anyway, Snoqualmie Falls is gorgeous. The little park is teeny weeny but it’s got a gorgeous view of this natural oddity. There is a bit of construction going on that makes it sad and uncomfortable, but it isn’t enough to ruin the gorgeous view.

What made it even more beautiful was the rain. There’s something gorgeous about seeing the falls in the rain surrounded by the green trees.

Check out the photos here:

Needless to say it was wonderful. While our time there was short, it was still a great day.

I will miss Kaitlin, but I’m glad we’re returning to school!

The second half of my day was dedicated to spending time with Tyler. I will miss him too, but we will chill sooner or later!

But anyway, if you’re in Washington and want to see wonderful scenery, come check out Snoqualmie Falls!!

Day 105: Ode To Paste Magazine

2 Sep

The most recent issue of Paste

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Once more, a digression from my promise of pictures of California, but this is important.

As you probably know, I did a paste mag video week a few weeks ago (talking about videos given to me by Paste Magazine, aka my favorite magazine).

Well, some shockingly sad news was announced yesterday:

“Paste Media Group announces, with deepest sadness, the suspension of the Paste magazine print product. Struggles with mounting debt were made public last year when our readers responded with generosity to save the magazine. But the prolonged downturn of the ad market has forced a hiatus. All subscribers have access to the digital version of their magazines through the June/July issue on PasteMagazine.com. Paste, while considering strategic alternatives, is focusing on its digital assets, including PasteMagazine.com.”

Yes, my dear readers, my all time favorite magazine (and my dream job) is suspending print publications. I wanted to cry for my future, and also my year subscription.

But this is a website devoted to optimism, and for today’s blogpost, I’ve decided to write an Ode to Paste Magazine:

An Ode To Paste Magazine

Moving to the great northwest
Was hard enough
Without much of a knowledge
Of current music
But Paste was there.
With it’s influence in the indie music community
Featuring some artists
Like Fleet Foxes and Starlight Mints
That quickly became my favorite musicians.
With it’s countless free downloads of music and videos
Including an ice skater performing against the Shins
And a woman hiding in a bookcase in the snow.
With it’s witty writing
Keeping me interested in whatever I’m reading
Within it’s strangely calming pages.
With that weird smell
That’s strangely appealing
When you pick a copy up at a bookstore.
I will miss you Paste
And I will never forget you.
So Bon Voyage
Which means “Good Travel”
And not goodbye.

Day 103: HOT TAMALES!!

31 Aug

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

First off, I’m back from California! And I shall have some pictures for ya tomorrow (as my blog post). Sorry I didn’t update so well, I was lacking internet (except for my phone) and it is INCREDIBLY DIFFICULT to update this blog from my iPhone. Seriously!

Anyway, I have a couple of notes for you:

1.) PUMPKIN SPICE LATTES ARE BACK AT STARBUCKS!! If you want the most amazing coffee yummy treat from Starbucks, GET IT.

2.) I discovered a new love for Green Tea with Splenda! So so so good!

3.) I think the weather loves me and my mom. When we arrived in California, we had checked the weather reports and they boasted 110 degrees for the whole week. The first day was hot… the next 5 days were between the 60s and 80s! Plus there was rain! (nothing like the rain that greeted me when I stepped off the plane at Sea-Tac)

4.) Sea-Tac is the NICEST AIRPORT EVER. So easy to navigate, super nice staff, clean rooms everywhere, and just overall a breeze. I adore this airport!

5.) My actual blog post for this evening is dedicated to my two future roomies. We discovered this video last year when we were procrastinating on our homework. Ever since then it’s become a huge inside joke (resulting in a HILARIOUSLY AWESOME set of salt and pepper shakers for our apartment) and an automatic cheerer-upper.

So, in honor of the lovely Jamie and Becca, I bring you HOT TAMALES!!!

Day 86: White Daisy Passing by Rocky Votolato

14 Aug

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Today is the last day of Paste Mag video week, and I’d love to end it on a beautiful note with Rocky Votolato’s “White Daisy Passing”.

I can’t say much about this song, but just listen to it because it is gorgeous.

Day 65: Skywire

24 Jul

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Today has been a pretty innocent day for me. Chilling in North Bend with my mother, gazing at the beautiful (and looming) Mount Si, and eating cherry pie from the awesome Twede’s Cafe, it has been quite a good day.

So, in honor of this, I present you with one of my all time favorite games: Skywire (by the game company Nitrome, who make some of the cutest games ever). Basically, you are in control of a little zipline monorail full of three people. You have to navigate them from the beginning of the level to the end without losing all three of the little people. It’s colorful, full of cute little animals, and has great 8-bit music.

Click the picture below to play the game! Also, if you want more, there’s a Skywire 2 and other fun games on Nitrome.com!

Also, if you haven’t seen Inception yet, go see it! It’s amazing and neat and a great summer film. For the ladies: look out for the wonderfully suave Joseph Gordon-Levitt… not to mention English Tom Hardy and the ever-so-handsome Leonardo DiCaprio. Just take my word for it and go see it!

Day 61: Young Folks by Peter Bjorn And John

20 Jul

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Today I have a short blog post, but I will update a lot longer and more in depth tomorrow about a great day (chronicled in photos).

I bring you a great song, and a cute video made as a project for it. I didn’t make the video, but I stumbled upon it a few years back when the song was in it’s prime.

Enjoy “Young Folks” by Peter Bjorn And John

Day 49: My Cardboard Life

8 Jul

Hello there! If this is your first time on the site, be sure to check out the about page at the top for more info on my project! Also, sign the guestbook (also located in the top)!

Just like yesterday, I said in my blogpost that I’d mention more information about URBAN CRAFT UPRISING, so here it is

  • This saturday and sunday (July 10th & 11th) at the Seattle Center Exhibition Hall
  • Free admission!
  • Come look at neat projects from cool indie artists from around the nation (including Schmancy, Cake Spy, Figs & Ginger, Monkey Sock Monkey, Ugly Baby, go robot!, and many many more!)
  • Raffle, prizes, craft demos, and much more!

Come check it out! Also, I’ll be volunteering on the Saturday from 8:00am to 1:00pm! Come say hi to me!

Also, I will have a special blogpost coming up next week sometime, but it’s a surprise! Get excited. GET EXCITED. But not too excited.

Okay, so for today’s post I have two things

1. After posting the documentary yesterday, my mother requested that I mention at least something about a movie called Animals Are Beautiful People. Basically, the movie is a fake documentary about a lot of real and semi-fake animals. While it receives a lot of controversy for animal cruelty, it was something I laughed at as a child. Besides, the 70s were a different time.

Here’s a clip from it (one of my personal favorites)

2. Last week, I showed you one of my favorite webcomics (called “Johnny Wander”). Today, I bring you another webcomic that makes me smile.

My Cardboard Life tells the story of a small square of Cardboard named Colin and his friends Pauline (made of paper) and Polar Bear (made of cloth). Each day they get into antics with their other friends, like a ladies man band-aid, a sponge with foil life, and, of course, CARDBOARD CARL (or Colin’s dad).

The reason I like it so much is because it is a different kind of comic… Each panel is made up of paper, cardboard, cloth, socks, band-aids, leaves, and really anything to make it look like a little world. It’s imaginative and adorable!

Here’s one of my favorite comics of the past couple of days!
